Notre Dame of Dadiangas University (NDDU) warmly welcomed two international scholars from Timor-Leste, ๐ ๐. ๐๐๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฎ โ๐๐๐ฐ๐โ ๐ฑ๐ฎ ๐ฆ๐ถ๐น๐๐ฎ and ๐ ๐. ๐ญ๐ฒ๐น๐ถ๐ฎ ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฎ ๐ฑ๐ฎ ๐๐ผ๐๐๐ฎ, as they pursue graduate studies in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) through the Universityโs scholarship program.
Both scholars are teachers from the Instituto Catรณlico para Formaรงรฃo de Professores (ICFP) in Baucau, Timor-Lesteโan Institute of Higher Education founded by the Marist Brothers of the Schools in 2002. Fully accredited by the National Agency for Academic Assessment and Accreditation (ANAAA) and LAMDIK, an international accreditation agency from Indonesia, ICFP is dedicated to preparing primary and junior secondary teachers who serve the fourteen municipalities of Timor-Leste.
As the youngest nation in Asia, Timor-Leste continues to look to education as the foundation of nation-building. By supporting Lucy and Zeliaโs studies, NDDU strengthens its commitment to SDG 4: Quality Education, ensuring access to inclusive and equitable learning opportunities. Their training also supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as NDDU collaborates with ICFP and Timor-Lesteโs education sector to expand academic opportunities beyond borders.
The scholarship program reflects NDDUโs broader mission to promote global engagement and contribute to ASEANโs shared vision of sustainable development. By empowering future teacher-educators like Lucy and Zelia, NDDU not only helps improve English language teaching in Timor-Leste but also advances regional cooperation for SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities.
This milestone highlights NDDUโs enduring role in shaping educators who will, in turn, shape nationsโaffirming that education remains at the heart of progress, peace, and sustainable development in Southeast Asia.
